The most likely DLC picks for Tekken 8 Season 1

Fans of fighting games are in the final stages of waiting for Tekken 8 to come out later this month. While we already know who is on the starting roster, the characters in the DLC are still a mystery.

We've decided to look into who we think has the best chance of making it into the Season 1 cast since the Tekken World Tour 2023 Finals are happening this weekend, where at least the first DLC fighter is likely to be announced.

Even though the Year 1 Pass adds only four characters, we've selected our top five, so not everyone will be included.

Josie may be the first new fighter to be added to Tekken 8 following its launch, according to some dubious leaks, but we are less certain that she will be included here first.

Although Kunimitsu and Lidia appeared to have a good chance of making our list, it appears that some of their move sets have been used by new characters like Reina and Victor.

There is a decent chance that a brand-new character will appear in Season 1, just like we saw a lot of new characters in Tekken 7, but since we don't know much about anyone yet, they won't appear either.

This is our emotional rundown with regards to who we believe is probably going to appear in Tekken 8, so let us in on who you'd pick contrastingly in the remarks.

Julia Chang

Julia Chang Julia Chang hasn't really missed a mainline entry since her introduction in Tekken 3 after basically taking over for Michelle.

She is probably the most well-known female fighter who isn't already on the starting roster and is someone even casual fans will probably recognize.

People aren't happy with Julia's character arc in Tekken 7, where she became an internet streamer. It's also unlikely that Julia will return to her wrestling persona of Jaycee in the main timeline.

We believe that Julia probably makes the most sense of the other characters.

Like Julia, our boy Eddy Gordo, along with Lucky Chloe and Christie Monteiro, hasn't missed a Tekken game since 3. Surprisingly, he wasn't in the starting lineup for 8.

Despite the fact that he is one of the characters that is the most annoying to actually fight, the guy is still a pretty common choice not to fight in the new game, especially for newer or less experienced players trying to get into Tekken and quickly perform some cool moves.

Lucky Chloe might get the nod instead because Tekken 8 lacks that Capoeira feature at the moment.

Or, perhaps Bandai Namco will surprise us by releasing them as a set that simultaneously excites and enrages everyone.

Or, hell, maybe Christie will be brought back to play that role in the end.

Heihachi Mishima

Heihachi Mishima Despite the fact that Heihachi Mishima is no longer relevant to the story of Tekken following the events of Episode 7, DLC characters do not have to be canon.

Even though he has passed on some traits and moves to Kuma and Reina, the big man is still one of the franchise's icons. However, nothing can compare to the real thing.

As a non-canon feature, the possibility of his inclusion opens up even more gameplay and design possibilities than if he were alive.

The developers could bring back Heihachi when he was at his best, when he was a raged, charred husk from his time in a volcano, or even when he learned martial arts.

However, if they can wait until Season 2 or Season 3 before making that move, it's possible that his return will have a greater impact.

Tifa Lockhart

Tifa Lockhart / Guest Character Despite Katsuhiro Harada's rightful assertion that there will not be any guest characters in the starting roster of Tekken 8 like Akuma did in 7, he did not rule them out after the game's release.

Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy 7 seems like the most logical choice for a crossover, especially considering how many fans have been requesting her inclusion for years.

By including Geese Howard from SNK and Noctis from Final Fantasy 15 on the early DLC roster for Tekken 7, Square Enix has already demonstrated that they are open to major crossovers, with Sephiroth and Sora from Kingdom Hearts appearing in Bandai Namco's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Due to the fact that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is scheduled to be released approximately one month after Tekken 8, this would be the ideal time to carry out the cross-promotion that has generated so much demand.

If a guest character comes from a fighting game other than Tekken, Tifa's advanced and flashy martial arts would be the best fit for the world of Tekken.

Tifa is our pick for the most likely, though Capcom or SNK may still be willing to lend out one of their signature fighters.

Eliza Kazumi

Eliza Kazumi and Eliza were our final choices, but since we are already resurrecting Heihachi from the dead, we decided to go with the undead character.

Tekken 7 players have a wide range of opinions about Eliza, but the character's popularity cannot be denied, especially given her design.

Her gameplay style hasn't really been filled in in Tekken 8, and we believe there is a lot the developers could improve or refine in a second mainline outing. Although she could be pretty frustrating to deal with in the previous game (and presumably Tekken Revolution, but I never played that for more than 30 minutes), her gameplay style hasn't really been filled in.

Unless she falls asleep first, this vampire is still lurking in the shadows, waiting for her next chance to show off.

That wraps up our breakdown of our top five choices for Tekken 8's Season 1 DLC. We also considered Bruce/Fahkumram, Kazumi, Armor King, Marduk, Josie, and Anna as honorable mentions.

Keep an eye out for the Tekken World Tour Finals finale on Sunday, January 14, when the first DLC character for Tekken 8 will presumably be revealed.
